Preventive Dentistry

Your Path to a Problem-Free Smile

At Cross City Dental, we like to focus most of our attention on prevention because we’d rather help you avoid developing dental problems in the first place rather than have to fix them later! With this approach, you’ll not only spend less time (and money!) in the dentist’s chair, but your smile will look and feel better as well! Below, you can learn more about all the services we can use to help you avoid everyday dental problems like cavities and gum disease. To schedule your next preventive appointment, please contact us today.

Checkups & Cleanings

A standard checkup is one of the best ways we can keep your smile clean and healthy year after year, and it will consist of a thorough dental cleaning and comprehensive oral exam.

With a dental cleaning, Delene our hygienist will use ultrasonic tools to break up and clear away plaque buildup on your teeth and gums, specifically targeting those areas your brush and floss can’t reach. Then, Dr. Novikov will perform an oral exam where he’ll look for the signs of tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and more. By just getting regular checkups each year, he can catch any dental problems you might have early and treat them as quickly as possible.

Nightguards for Bruxism

Bruxism is a condition where a person unconsciously clenches their jaw and grinds their teeth at night, and research suggests that it affects about 10% of the entire U.S. population! Over time, it can severely wear down the teeth, causing them to become more sensitive and even fracture. Fortunately, we can help you manage this sneaky problem using a simple custom-made mouthpiece called a nightguard. You’ll only need to wear it to bed, and it works by providing a protective cushion between your teeth that will prevent them from being damaged due to grinding.

Oral Cancer Screenings

The American Cancer Society recommends that everyone should have at least one oral cancer screening per year so the disease can be caught and treated as quickly as possible. To make things nice and easy for you, Dr. Novikov can perform one during your regular checkup. He’ll examine your lips, gums cheeks, tongue, throat, and neck for any signs of the disease, and he can advise you on what to do next if he finds anything that causes concern.
