FAQS

How do I know when it’s time to visit Cross City Dental for a checkup?

We recommend that everyone come in for a dental checkup every six months. If you have special needs, we might recommend that you come in more often, but twice a year is a good place to start. Why so often? There are a number of oral health issues that can be much more easily and successfully treated the earlier we discover them. Using our DIAGNOdent laser caries detection system, for instance, we can discover areas where decay is in the preliminary phases and undetectable by other means. Long before you develop a large cavity and a toothache, we can take action to stop the damage. At Cross City Dental, we believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

How long is a new patient visit? What will happen?

Your first visit with us will last about an hour.  During that time we will establish the foundation for a lasting relationship that can be built upon for years to come.  It is important for you to feel comfortable and confident with the care you recieve at Cross City Dental.  Whether your dental needs are simple or complex, we want to be your dental care center.  After a complete set of x-rays and a comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Novikov will review all of your treatment options with you.  We always value your input as an important part of the development and success of your dental goals.

What is gum disease?

Gum disease is a surprisingly common condition with roughly half of our adult population affected.  Left untreated, this infection of the gum tissue is the leading cause of tooth loss.  Fortunately it is easily treated, if diagnosed early, and with regular continued care you can keep your teeth for years to come.  If you notice bleeding gums, a bad taste in your mouth or bad breath this could be early evidence of serious problems.  If you are experiencing any of these conditions, please bring it to the attention of your dentist or contact us at Cross City Dental.

What is a dental implant and how long do they last?

Dental implants are a safe and extremely effective method of tooth replacement. Because they use titanium posts to act as replacement tooth roots, they look and feel like natural teeth. How long your dental implants last depends on a number of factors including age, jawbone and soft tissue health, and hygiene routines, but most people find their implants last a lifetime when cared for properly.

Does your office use dental lasers?

Laser technology has revolutionized dental care, offering greater comfort and precision in all types of situations. DIAGNOdent, for instance, uses lasers to detect decay. Soft tissue lasers provide periodontal therapy while encouraging faster healing and providing better overall results. And patients who suffer from dental anxiety will be pleased to learn that dental lasers used by Cross City Dental in Dixie County, Florida help greatly reduce or diminish discomfort and pain.

What are the benefits of digital X-rays over traditional radiographs?

Digital X-rays offer unparalleled benefits over traditional radiographs: they’re convenient, safe for the environment, and provide a great opportunity for patient education. They can be transferred and copied accurately, and best of all, they’re safer for our patients. Digital X-rays emit about 80-percent less radiation than traditional methods.
